伴随着中国改革开放和现代化建设实践，邓小平理论的发展也经历了三个重要阶段，即恢复实践标准，赋予认识的客观判别尺度；坚持生产力标准，赋予实践以唯物史观的是非尺度；提出“三个有利于”标准，赋予生产力以主体价值尺度。这三个阶段体现了邓小平理论的主体导向。

With the opening policy and reform of China and its construction of modernization, Deng Xiaoping's theory undergoes three important phases. Firstly,it reinstates the standard of practice, which endows with the objective measure of judgement. Secondly, it adheres to the standard of productive forces, which bestows on the measure of practice. Thirdly, it proposes the standard of "the three benefits, " which vests in the measure of productive forces. These three phases are the main part of Deng Xiaoping's theory.
